Landing somewhere between heavenly hippie nymphs and a Stevie Nicks revival, the Versace Atelier collection shown yesterday in Paris was an airy fairy affair. All color and light, the cool lucite couture catwalk held tens of thousands of fresh orchids, color-blocked to match the rich, joyful palette of this collection. Mouth-watering shades of lilac, violet, mandarin, seafoam, turquoise and lemon virtually floated down the runway. Exquisitely beaded, shredded, layered asymmetric chiffon dresses lightened up the image of the Versace woman. She's not all skin-tight, bondage sex-goddess. Not for Fall 2015 anyway.
This season she's a delicate, sensual swan with flowing loose locks held in only by her bejeweled, floral hippie crown. Try not to groan, this is not the floral crown we've all become so weary of, this is a couture-embroidered vine of tiny beaded leaves, petals and sprigs that circles the head in the most romantic, off-hand manner. And just in case this is all too much pretty to bear, look no further than those gleaming glam-rock platform boots and sandals that'll give this season's Seventies inspired Versace vixen that much needed edge.
Rock on Donatella, Rock on!
