The Spring 2015 shows are off to a roaring start...well sort of, at least for some. One of my faves, and I'm sure this won't change even after it's all said and done at NYFW, is COACH. As brands go, Coach has always been either too preppy or too commercial for my personal taste. You can't deny it's major mass appeal though, and for many, it continues to be a highly coveted label. But as we speak, all of this is bound to be 'history' for this distinctly American company. When you bring in a talented Brit designer like Stuart Vevers to re-imagine what a brand can be, you just know you're going to get something fresh, new and thankfully, interesting. Vevers' presentation this week for COACH was as spot on as his fall collection, his first for the brand. Breathing a full-on breath of edgy air to the accessories and RTW, Vevers gave me something to lust after. Finally! Creamy leather totes emblazoned with artist Gary Baseman's monsters is right up my alley, slightly weird but still luxe. These creatures also live on some of the knitted pieces and tee-shirts in case the bag isn't enough for you. I can see myself carrying one of these totes until it disintegrates from over-use, although these creature carry-alls are cool enough to live on permanent display like the arty illustrations they proudly feature.
