French leather goods house Lancel takes credit for introducing the bucket bag in 1925 to its well-heeled Parisian clientele. Today the bucket bag happens to be on every IT-list from here to Timbuktu. Even though handbag designers have consistently offered this classic shape for decades, it’s only recently that the style became the bag du jour. Chalk that up to the impossibly chic, minimal handy-design-work of a pair of very talented ladies who happened to be in the right place at the right time with just the right thing, in 2013 Rachel Mansur & Floriana Gavriel of Mansur Gavriel managed to create a literal bucket-bag frenzy with sold out wait-lists around the world for their super-clean, luxe bags with nothing but a tiny gold logo on the front and a brightly colored interior. Virtually impossible to get, but no less covetable, the search for the perfect bucket bag continues. May the best woman win!
