Call me a nut, but at least I'm not alone in this one. Thom Browne's conceptual Fall 2015 collection, clearly conceived for a stage beyond fashion (but what else is new?) was the home of my favorite handbag shown during the New York collections. A sturdy, structured grainy leather Moby Dick of a purse complete with a mouth constructed from a zipper, eyes and a perfect whale tail. It's almost classic enough to pass as a chic black carry-all, but on second glance, nope, not happening. I'm not sure why I prefer a purse that looks like a toy (and in this case, a very expensive toy, I'm sure). I am lucky enough to own Rei Kawakubo's grey wool 'dead bear' purse from her Comme des Garcons Spring 2014 collection. A childish touch of surrealism and the odd non-sequitor piece brings me loads of joy, and I think that should be the purpose of fashion regardless of how you get there. That, and to get yourself dressed and out of the house every day, I guess.
