Back in February during NY fashion week, I discovered a very special collection of hand-beaded jewelry called Maison des Perles at the Isetan Pop-Up shop which featured various Japanese accessory, fashion, home designers and artists. Maison des Perles is the creation of the extremely talented Moko Kobayashi who trained in the fine art of haute couture embroidery at the storied house of Lesage. Each of Kobayashi's pieces are exquisitely crafted from vintage glass beads from the 1930's and are the result of the couture technique 'crochet de luneville'. All her pieces resemble tiny tattoos of current cultural icons like cats, ice cream cones and friendly floating ghosts. Quirky and cute, each brooch, necklace or earring is a petite treasure that gives a peek into the wearers personality and mood without making a big brash statement or over the top pretense. Sweet.
